Q:What brushes do you think are necessary for makeup use? (e.g.: blush brush, stipple, powder, contour, angled, etc)
Eh, in my opinion every brush is multifunctional in some way.. You just have to figure it out on your own when messing around with them.. So it wouldn’t be necessary to say that you should only use a CERTAIN type of brush for a certain makeup function. You know?
But I guess in general, the MOST necessary ones in my opinion are:
A contour brush - Something like the MAC 109. It’s perfect for so many things; contouring, blush, highlight, or even blending out liquid foundation.
A foundation brush - Now, there are so many different types of foundation brushes it’s crazy. I’d say the most important type of foundation brush to have is a flat top. Or a beauty blender sponge. Either of them give the best finishes and blend effortlessly.
An angled eyeliner brush - You could use this in many ways, too. For eyeliner, eyeshadow on your lash line, or for defining/filling in your eyebrows.
A blending brush - Having several of these is always very useful. For one, you use it to blend under-eye concealer. For another, you could use it to blend eyeshadow. I like having one brush for neutral shadows then another for dark shadows. Just so that I don’t have to keep wiping one or the other off. You could use it for contouring your nose or cheeks as well, depending on what kind of blending brush you use (one like a MAC 224 would be more fitting for contouring)
A flat or fluffy shader brush - Used for patting on eyeshadow. A synthetic one is used for cream shadows.
A chiseled shader brush or pencil brush - Great for small details around the eye (i.e. tear duct, lower lashline)
A kabuki brush - for setting your foundation with powder. Depending on how fluffy it is you could also use it to lightly contour your cheeks or for bronzing your face!
Hope this helped!
