    Okay~ :)

beautywithshannon asked for some recommendations on Bourjois, Barry M and Sleek make up, which, as far as I’m aware, are not currently sold in the US (though from what I inferred, they are available in Canada.)

This started out just me looking through my makeup, thinking I don’t have much of either Barry M or Bourjois so I started taking photos of everything so I could both show and rate what I use, but then I found more and more makeup so this may be a master post. Hmm… Anyway, to begin!

    BOURJOIS

    Face Foundation –

I’ve only used two foundations by Bourjois, one of which has long since been discontinued though the matching compact is still in production.

Brush Foundation (discontinued, pictured in middle) 32 Rose Clair

This was a real favourite of mine when I first bought it. I was just getting into makeup and it had a built in brush and a button at the bottom that pumped up the foundation which was a real help since I had no clue what I was doing. I used 32 rose clair, which gave a nice healthy glow and was perfect for blemish-free skin as the coverage is not very heavy to me. I think it’s lovely for a natural barely there look, and I would definitely use it if I had clear skin

10 Hour Sleep Effect  (pictured first) 72 Rose Clair

I used to love this. It would sit perfectly nice on my skin, maintaining a clear and dewy look that made skin look refreshed and perky. Now, not so much, since I have extremely dehydrated and blemished skin so it does not sit nicely at all, but feels tight against my skin. I think for younger girls, getting into foundation its perfect but wears off after a while. If they had darker shades I would definitely get it as the first foundation for my baby sister, but unfortunately, they don’t. :(

    Around £9.99 / $17.99

    Powder -

Compact Powder (pictured last) 73 Miel Dore

Oh my gosh, this is so heavy and orange I hate it. A complete waste of money and the days where I would I go around look like I’d been tangoed… It sits very heavy on your face and leaves a grainy  texture so definitely not one I’d recommend…

    Around £8.50.

    Lips

They have a lovely range of pinks that I can’t quite live without. :)

Gloss Effect 3D 61 Rose Acidule / 63 Rose Eclat

This comes on ever so light and bright. I love the pop of pink and the high glossy shine. I can’t find this on ASOS.com but I have found another 3D Effect Gloss, which I used to have quite a while ago. This also sits nicely, though slightly stickier and heavier. It also doesn’t have as much shine but I think it gives a nice pop of colour.

    Around £6.99 / $13

Sweet Kiss Naturel Lipstick 03 Rose Sensual / 06 Rose Tendre

These two lipsticks have quite deep but muted colours. I normally slick the above lipgloss over for a high sheen if I want to a bit brighter but, for the most part, I stick with these since they add a nice brightness to my face. I prefer 06 over 03 because 03 tends to come out too red on my face more often than not, so I end up needing more blusher but then look like a clown. With both, you’ll need a clear lip balm before hand since they can be quite drying and end up cracking on dry lips.

    £7.99

Sweet Kiss Lipstick 81 Rose Folk

This is arguably the brightest colour I’ve ever worn. It’s an extremely bright pink which I bought on a whim since I couldn’t find a nice muted rose pink so I just grabbed the brightest one instead (yes, logic is not always my friend.) But, alhamdulillah, it ended up looking really nice. I think if you wear hijab and make up like myself, you need to be careful of the colours you wear, so this I bought to wear with a navy leopard print scarf and it ended up looking very nice and glam (though probably too glam since I wore it to work - oops!) If I find it a bit too bright I just top it over with a Rimmel London Kate lipstick in shade 03 since it tones it down a little.

    £7.99 / $14.32

    Eyes

Gosh, I have lots of their eye makeup. 0_0 I think I should cut down…

    Eyeshadow

Round Pot Eyeshadow (top row) Violet / Grey / Green / White

(To be quite honest, I’m not sure what they’re called now since I bought these ages ago and now they’re repackaged. Hmm)

Their colours are quite intense, with their deep violet and green one my favourites. The problem is that because the shadows are solid and not in powder form, you have to really use your effort to get that same darkness on it. Unlike Barry M, which is instantly dark and deep, these you have to use elbow grease. I know you can wet your brush or sponge but if I want to add dimension to something I’ve already applied, I don’t like to have to wet anything.

    £7.99 / $12.52

I also picked up a few tiny sizes from a discount make up store (House of Fraser outlet, in Leicester where it’s always discounted!!) I think they were supposed to be to make your own compact of your chosen colours, but I didn’t bother with that. The third colour, a light golden beige, is one that my sisters and I almost always use. It gives a lovely dull beige-gold shimmer that starts off as a base. I have no idea where you’d get these now, but they were about £3.

Smoky Eyes Trio (top row, last two) 04 Nude Igenu / 07 Bleu Rock

Again, these require a bit of work, but they do come on quite lovely. The turquoise trio is not as bright as it looks though, so I ended up using some brighter colours from a cheap Hello Kitty eye shadow set from H&M and I think Urban Decay as well. The browns I haven’t used as much since I have an old brown compact by Bourjois too (it’s exactly like the set in the same picture, the top row, first set) which I like more. And then what I like even more is this lovely H&M eyeshadow set, with about 15 colours that has all these shimmery browns and beiges but never mind..

    £7.99 / $14.31

At the bottom of that row, are more sets from the same outlet store from before. They are quite odd colour combinations, I’m not sure why my sister and I bought them but they’re okay individually. They apply easily enough.

    Mascara / Eyeliner

Coup de Theatre! 2 in 1 (top mascara)

Average. Lengthens slightly, but does not really thicken your lashes. The brush is of medium size but the individual bristles are quite thin which I like. It smells nice too lol.

    £9.49

Volume Clubbing Ultra Black (second mascara in picture)

Hmm, I don’t like this but little sister loves it. I have average lashes, not particularly long nor thick, whereas my little sister has short but very full lashes, mash’Allah, so on her it comes on really pretty. It gives her really thick dramatic lashes. On me, it just makes mine look awful and clumpy, like I’ve just sweep gloop over them - not a good look. The brush has its bristles really far apart, which is where the problem lies for me.

£9.49 / $14.32 (currently on sale at asos for $10.74)

I have the matching Volume Clubbing Liner which I find particularly awful. It’s the third item in the above picture. I find the brush to be really quite thick which makes it a problem for me since I like to start with a thin line and decide how to thicken my top liner after. Rimmel’s eye liner is definitely the best!

Kohl & Contour Eye Pencil (top) 02 Gris / 01 Ultra Black

I did have the ultra black one but I gave it to my bff since she was in dire need of it, and I had since stopped wearing kohl inside my eyes. The black on was lovely though, super dark but not very long wearing though. It tends to bleed out quite quickly, the same happening with this grey one.

    £5.99

    Liner Feature (bottom) Black

This is useless! Dries quickly and does not give the ease nor the precision I want! Do not recommend! Grr!

    £6.99 / $10.74

    ~

And that is all. I do have a few other bits but I can’t be bothered to look for them and review so sorry. My gosh, that took forever. I shall do the Barry M later, hopefully, when I’ve got more time. I hope this helped you out shannon love and anyone else who reads this! :)

    xoxo

    Thank you again!!! :D xo

  • Review: L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara

    Price: $8.95 MSRP (prices vary)

Claims (from L’Oreal website): “…Fuller, longer, curled, and sculpted lashes. No clumps or messy results. Just outrageous volume from every angle.”

    My rating: 7/10

I was somewhat disappointed in this product. Probably because I had high hopes for it and it IS a drugstore mascara. But then again, drugstore mascaras sometimes compare to highend products, anyway, and I would’ve thought that L’Oreal had more to offer for this one. But anyway, the main reason why I like (not love) this product, and the reason why I gave it a somewhat high rating, is because of MY personal preference for mascaras suited for MY lashes. The fibers in this mascara were designed so that my lashes appear longer and I definitely agree with that. There aren’t a lot of fiber (which I had hoped for), but other than that, it does keep my curl in place ALL day and it washes off easily. The cons are that it dries fast so you have to be quick with application, the wand/brush isn’t as sharp or defined as I’d like it to be (I prefer the newer plastic brushes), and it clumps when added more than one if not two coats. Overall, I like the affect that it gives to my short lashes. The formula could be a little less drying but that’s what keeps my curl in place so I guess I can’t complain too much. I would only recommend this to people with lashes like mine.

  • Best drugstore highlighter?
    Anonymous

Prestige Skin Loving Minerals Bronzing Powder in Pure Shimmer

Don’t be fooled by the name haha it’s not a bronzer obviously. I have been obsessed with this highlighter. It’s the perfect face highlighter and can also be used as an eyeshadow highlight if you want. The only reason I bought this was because everyone said it’s a dupe for MAC’s Soft and Gentle MSF which I originally wanted. This works perfectly. I absolutely loooove it.
